A LETTER FROM MR. BATTEN
March 10, 2017
Dear Families,
We are proud to announce that Cooley Elementary School has won the 2017 Education in Excellence Award. This recognition is for our Essay Writing Program and Close Reading work. This is one of, if not the most, prestigious awards given to schools across the state. The award is given by the Michigan Association of School Boards and sponsored by SET-SEG. Honoring this accomplishment, Cooley will receive a $2,500 check along with a trophy and a road sign. I would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. O’Rourke and Mrs. Patel for their work and creativity on this project.
The state recognizes unique programs that make a difference for student learning. The statewide award is given to 10 programs out of several hundred that have applied. Individual schools, districts and intermediate school districts are all eligible. This award has been given out since 1994 to help school districts create public awareness of the great things happening in the classrooms across the state.
Cooley will receive our trophy, street sign and check at a ceremony in our gymnasium on Wednesday, March 22 at 2:00 pm. The entire student body along with some distinguished guests from the district, including the Superintendent, will be in attendance. There will be 50 seats for parents then standing room only, but I encourage you to attend if you are able. The ceremony will last about 30 minutes.
This is another example of Cooley Expecting and Achieving Excellence.
Sincerely,
Mike Batten
Cooley Elementary Principal
